Jess noticed an extremely random and unexpected sight today as we were walking across a main road in Tiznit: an SUV with a license plate from… Mississippi.
Mississippi?
Of all the states in America, and with most of the Moroccans I’ve heard of living in the States apparently in California, New Jersey, and New York, the first U.S. license plate I see here is from Mississippi?
My first thought was, “Interesting and kind of cool, an odd bit of ‘home’ to see in the south of Morocco.”
My second thought was, “Man, I wonder how life is in Mississippi for Muslim immigrants.” Not really the place I think I’d wanna be. Not exactly a haven of cross-cultural understanding, from what I’ve heard of it.
Anyway, I don’t really have a whole lot to say on it at the moment, but I did want to record such a random encounter. Next time I see a car that makes me think, “Wow, kinda fancy for these parts,” I’ll have to look to see if it’s actually from America rather than France.
